The Little Robot and the Great Mars Adventure

September 11, 2007 Planet Earth. The world remembers a suicide mission that killed thousands.

September 11, 2007 Planet Mars. A little robot begins what could be its own suicide mission to try to unlock the secrets of a lost world.

Opportunity, one of the two plucky rovers that have been exploring Mars since 2004, is now beginning what engineers on Earth say could be its final mission

Today, they sent commands that will start Opportunity moving down the side of a steep, half-mile crater called Victoria, where exposed rocks may offer clues to what Mars was like millions of years ago, when scientists believe its climate was warmer and wetter.

What a difference 250 million miles can make....

I've written about how I love these little robots before.

But the descent into Victoria crater promises to be the most excellent adventure of all.

What a strange and scary world.

I wonder what happened to it?

Imagine how even MORE beautiful OUR world would be..... if we used our genius for peace instead of war.

So far so good.

Go little robot go....
