Although I've never worked in one, and babies terrify me, I always enjoy dropping by the maternity ward, because it's the happiest place in the hospital.
Most of the mums are positively glowing, having demonstrated once again that women are stronger than men.
And I like to kid the first-time dads by assuring them that sleep deprivation is not ALWAYS fatal.
So I was glad to see this delivery went well.
It looks as if the ghastly partnership of Stephen Harper and Jimbo Flaherty is heading for a messy breakup.
For after first appearing to agree with Flaherty that his income splitting plan was fatally flawed, he has now changed his mind.
The Conservative caucus appears to have put some woolly socks on Prime Minister Stephen Harper's cold feet on income splitting, convincing him to stick with a key campaign promise despite his finance minister's public reservations.
Leaving himself looking like a flip flopper, and poor little Jimbo gasping for air...
It's hard to imagine a more outrageous performance in a Canadian parliament, or any parliament, than the one the Con MP Brad Butt offered up the other day.
By first announcing that he had "personally witnessed" people picking voter cards out of the garbage, and using them to commit electoral fraud.
And a few days later admitting he LIED.
But unfortunately for our democracy there is more than one Con clown. And the latest Con clown show stars Peter Van Loan....

As you may know, I have always been a strong supporter of a progressive coalition.
Because I can't forget how once upon a time we came so close to having one, and bringing down the Con regime.
Until we were betrayed by the Governor General, Michael Ignatieff caved, and both the Liberals and the NDP ended up burying the idea.
So I was really glad to see Tom Mulcair bring the idea of a future coalition back from the dead.
Hallelujah. I see that Jason Kenney has finally been rewarded for his outstanding work on behalf of the Con regime, the grateful religious fanatics of Canada, and of course the Lord Himself.
No, he still doesn't have Harper's job, or even his old job back as Minister of Immigration and Ethnic Banquets...
The job he misses so much.
But at least he has a Teddy Award !!!

Oh. Mein. Gott. I see Tom Flanagan, the Dr Strangelove of Canadian politics, is back with a new book.
And a warning for his former master Stephen Harper.
His all-out assault on Justin Trudeau is just not working.
Yesterday I wrote about the sordid tale of the Con MP Brad Butt, who claimed that he had "personally witnessed" people picking up voting cards out of the garbage.
So they could rush to the nearest polling station, with an accomplice to vouch for them, and commit voter fraud.
Until he suddenly admitted it was all a Big Lie. A Con whopper if ever there was one.
And It all happened so suddenly, I couldn't help wondering what had driven him to confess? Had Butt found Bejesus or what?
But today the truth was revealed.

Well we know that he has a touch of Nero in him, and we know he loves to eat.
But who knew the Cons were throwing themselves Roman banquets, and sending the tab to the taxpayers?
Oh boy. I guess it's because we are winter. And this one has gone on for too long.
For what else could explain the grotesque sight of the ratty Chris Alexander, scurrying out of his PMO briefing.
To accuse Justin Trudeau of being a dangerous communist.
OK. Let me get this straight. The Con regime is planning to ram their so-called Fair Elections bill through Parliament.
A bill that is intended to suppress the vote, muzzle the Chief Electoral Officer, give the Cons a fundraising advantage, and make it even easier to steal an election, like they tried to steal the last one.
But when Tom Mulcair accuses the Cons of trying to cheat, as he did today, the Speaker Andrew Scheer says he can't use that word?
Monday, February 24, 2014
As if it wasn't bad enough that the Cons tried to steal the last election.
As if it wasn't disgraceful enough that they are trying to ram a voter suppression bill through Parliament.
Now a Con MP has admitted that when he claimed he witnessed voter fraud he lied.
Well I think we can safely say that Stephen Harper didn't have a very good weekend.
First his plans for the total destruction of Justin Trudeau at the Liberal convention failed miserably...
Greg Perry/Toronto Star
When Justin managed to get away unscathed. Beep Beep.
And his designated agent of personal destruction Pierre Poilievre was left looking like an IDIOT.
Like millions of others I was dazzled by the closing of the Sochi Games, for it was a spectacular display of the best that Russia has to offer.
And I was happy to see the smiles on the faces of our athletes after such a successful Olympics.
But I have to admit I really didn't feel like celebrating, not when the biggest winner of those games was the sinister thug Vladimir Putin.

He's back in Canada after his disastrous trip to Mexico and rarely has he looked so diminished.
For while he is desperately trying to spin the trip into a triumph, nothing can conceal the humiliation of this slap in the face.
I see that Rex Murphy has finally responded to complaints that he is in a conflict of interest when he attacks environmentalists on the CBC, while shilling for Big Oil.
And that he has done it in his usual fashion, by trying to bury the inconvenient truth under a mountain of big words.

If Stephen Harper fails to get his precious Keystone pipeline, he'll have Tom Steyer to blame almost as much as Barack Obama.
Because the anti-pipeline billionaire has just produced a devastating poll that could kill the project dead.
By reminding his fellow Americans that Harper's bitumen won't be fuelling their country, it will be fuelling China.
For years, a majority of Americans have been telling pollsters they favour building the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline. But if asked whether it makes a difference that Alberta’s oil sands crude could be exported to China then sentiment turns negative, according to the project’s opponents.
According to the poll, overwhelming majorities of Americans want Congress to “make sure” it knows where the oil is going and want TransCanada executives to testify under oath that the oil will stay in the United States.
Which pulls the carpet out from under Harper and his oil pimps.
TransCanada, backed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and a slew of Canadian premiers, have pitched Keystone XL as a reliable source of much-needed oil from a trusted ally.
But environmentalists and other anti-Keystone XL groups claim the oil is no longer needed in the United States where domestic production has soared and that what Canada really wants is an export route to finance vast new development of the oil sands.
And undermines the support of even some of the pipeline's strongest backers.
Consider, for instance, the responses to this question: “Would it concern you a lot, a little, or not at all, if oil flowing through the Keystone XL pipeline ended up in China?”
Overall, 87 per cent agree that would concern them, with the concern greatest among conservatives – who otherwise tend to back the pipeline most strongly.
And who can blame those Americans eh?
For who wants to be called a SUCKER?
And who do you think Obama would rather favour?
The irritating RepubliCon Harper and his Chinese Big Oil buddies? Or his Democratic base, and big party donors like Steyer?
Yup, the oil pimp has met his match.
And it couldn't be more ironic eh?
Once Harper ignored the Chinese and called them "godless communists."
And now that he can't wait to jump into bed with them.
He risks being hoisted on his own petard...
And of course it couldn't happen to a nicer person.
Stephen Harper is heading for total humiliation.
And the pipeline shall not PASS...

I haven't had a chance to see much of the Justin Trudeau show yet.
But what I've seen I've mostly enjoyed.
Justin Trudeau is telling his Liberal party that their revival depends on being an antidote to anger, apathy and fear in Canadian politics.
And what amuses me the most is how the MSM can't seem to understand why he is so popular.
There's an old saying in Quebec, more Con or more stupid than that and you die.
But it clearly doesn't apply in Ontario eh?
Because if it did the loser Tim Hudak would be mummified by now.
Instead of bouncing up and down like a Con clown.

He has waited a long time to make his move. From the day he was first elected with the support of a group that was founded to kill medicare.
He had to restrain himself for so many years. But it was always going to be the biggest, bloodiest, and most prized trophy in his skull rack.
The one that told him the Canada he hated so much was dead at last.
And now the Con War on Medicare has finally begun.

As we know too well, just about everything the Con regime would sell us is more propaganda than reality.
The Porky Economic Action ads that boast about a job grant that doesn't exist.
The Great War on Crime in a country where the crime rate has been falling for years,
But who knew Jimbo Flaherty and his Con artists would go so far as to create make believe families.
Well I think it's safe to say that Stephen Harper's
For one thing the Three Amigos aren't the Three Amigos anymore, not when the two others hate him.
And he has so little to offer or receive, that he has been forced to resort to desperate measures to occupy his time.
Like hastily organizing his own mini summit with Big Oil.

We knew from the leaked memo that he has ordered his sinister Con operatives to disrupt the Liberal convention.
Stephen Harper’s Conservatives are planning to target Justin Trudeau at the upcoming Liberal convention with a carefully orchestrated campaign to disrupt Liberal communications, highlight disunity in the ranks and question his leadership abilities.
We know that he is desperate to try to destroy Justin Trudeau, by whatever means necessary.
So it should be blindingly obvious that this is a partisan smear.

About a week ago I wrote a post demanding to know why the CBC hadn't fired Rex Murphy for being a shill for Big Oil.
And I assumed that because so many others had complained, and it was such an obvious conflict of interest, that the CBC would at least take those complaints seriously.
But I was wrong. It turns out CBC management doesn't think Murphy is guilty of ANYTHING.
It's the winter that seems to have gone on forever. The bay is frozen solid.
Like much of the Great Lakes.
And I can't wait for it to warm up. Not just because I've got a roaring case of cabin fever.
But also because the birds who live in the bay are suffering from the lack of open water...
(click pic to enlarge)
With the magnificent swans being forced to share the few holes in the ice with hundreds of hungry ducks.
And my only consolation is that what's happening here and in other parts of the world is going to help melt Stephen Harper and his foul Con regime.
When I saw this picture of Stephen Harper in Mexico City, and saw all those soldiers firing their guns in his general direction, for a moment I thought his Three Amigos Summit was going to be even more disastrous than I had imagined.
But no it wasn't a firing squad. It was the only 21-gun salute the Mexicans were willing to give Lord Harper, so little respect do they have for him.
And it's all downhill from here eh? Because the trip is shaping as an unmitigated disaster.

I'm sure you remember how just over a month ago Stephen Harper set out to make his own propaganda movies.
By making us pay to make him look good.
With a weekly round-up of Great Leader's activities that resembles something you might encounter in a state like North Korea.
Well I'm happy to report that the Harper Show is an absolute and total BUST.
He has committed so many crimes against Canada and his values it's hard to list them all, let alone categorize them.
But without a doubt his worst crime is his never-ending assault on our democracy.
And in that regard nothing he has done is as sinister as his plan to suppress the vote with his new so-called Fair Elections Act.
For what makes it so sinister is that it is so deliberate, and it is leading us into dangerous territory.

As you probably know I have appointed myself the unofficial campaign manager (in the heathen areas) of Jason Kenney's leadership campaign.
In the firm belief that if he replaces Stephen Harper the Cons will be gone for a GENERATION.
And so far we're doing well, the wind and the Lord are in our sails, and as you can see from his twitter feed Jason is campaigning all-out.
One moment he's in Newfoundland, the next moment he's in BC, while still managing to hit every church, mosque, synagogue, and temple in between.
So you can imagine how horrified I was to read this article.

I haven't written about Tim Hudak for a while because quite frankly I thought his Cons would have got rid of him by now. Since he is the best thing the Ontario Liberals and the NDP have going for them.
And he is a real LOSER.
But I see he has been calling himself a "winner" after the by-elections in Thornhill and Niagara Falls.
Even though his party's loss in Niagara Falls, the riding next door to his own, was a HUMILIATING defeat.
And this makes him sound like a MORON.
Well today was Valentine's Day and for the first time in eight years I have nothing to say about it.
Firstly because I said all I wanted to say last year.
And secondly because I don't want to rub my happiness, or another pinky thing, in the faces of the lonely.
Not when there are so many, and loneliness is such a growing crisis.

It couldn't have been an uglier or more depressing sight. The Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at Canada House in Sochi.
Being greeted by our athletes as if he was some kind of rock star.
And they were his groupies...
It's hard to believe after what the Harper Cons have done to our veterans, that they could treat or betray them even more than they already have.
But that's exactly what they are doing. First they closed down those veteran service centres for no good reason.
Now they're going after their healthcare plans.
Well there's one thing you can always count on when dealing with Stephen Harper's ghastly Cons.
If you look behind the curtain, sooner or later you will come face to face with their sinister theocratic agenda.
For only that can explain why their flawed income splitting plan is causing such an unholy ruckus.
Thursday, February 13, 2014
It had to be one of the most bizarre sights I have ever seen in Question Period. And yet another sign that the Con regime is running out of steam, and Stephen Harper is losing his marbles.
For there was Jimbo Flaherty, on the day after his budget, sitting like a wax figure, or a garden gnome, while Great Ugly Leader answered all the questions directed at his muzzled Finance Minister.
And it does look a lot like the income splitting question is splitting the Con regime.
Wednesday, February 12, 2014
We know where it comes from, the diseased mind of Great Ugly Leader himself. We know what his filthy Cons have done to our country.
But what more can you say about a government whose essence is personal cruelty?
I like to think that Jim Flaherty's recent illness has made him a better human being, because I'm a firm believer in the power of redemption.
And he has come a long way from the days when he was calling for the homeless to be jailed.
But unfortunately he's still a Con, he still works for Stephen Harper, and his latest budget is nothing more than the product of a snake oil salesman.

Oh boy. I realize it's not easy to remain cheerful and optimistic in this dark Harperland. Not even in my little Hobbit Town where it's always Christmas.
Not when this freezing winter seems to have gone on FOREVER
And not when I can't even even tell my friends to cheer up, without risking getting an icy snowball in the back of the head. Ouch !#@!!!!
But think of it this way eh?
At least we know the answer to this three-year-old question...
Monday, February 10, 2014
If we had any doubt how far Stephen Harper will go to try to destroy Justin Trudeau now we know.
For here is their secret plan to try to undermine him at the Liberal convention.
Stephen Harper’s Conservatives are planning to target Justin Trudeau at the upcoming Liberal convention with a carefully orchestrated campaign to disrupt Liberal communications, highlight disunity in the ranks and question his leadership abilities. The game plan, laid in out Conservative party documents obtained by the Star, spells out the objective in three words: “drive, disrupt, disunity.”
One of the most outrageous aspects of Stephen Harper's new voter suppression scheme, a.k.a The Fair Elections Act, is how many Canadians it would disenfranchise.
Canada's chief electoral officer says eliminating a registered voter's ability to vouch for another could impact more than 100,000 people, most of them aboriginals who live on reserves.
Citizens most likely to be affected by that change are aboriginals who live on reserves who may be challenged to verify where they live because their home may not have a typical residential address. Young people who are moving around a lot for school or new jobs also have trouble keeping their identification and other documents up-to-date, as do seniors who move into care facilities and may not have access to their papers.
Which has some like Adam Goldenberg wondering whether it's even constitutional.
I've always known he was a vociferous climate change denier, a wordier Ezra Levant. A shabby little demagogue who lards his windy diatribes with Con talking points.
I recently found out that in addition to his gigs at CBC Television, CBC Radio, and the National Post, he also moonlights as a shill for Big Oil.
A words-weary audience jumped to its feet with an enthusiastic ovation for broadcaster Rex Murphy after he urged pipeline builders Friday to stop being ashamed of the multibillion-dollar projects they are trying to build.
But who knew that being an oily prophet, could be so profitable?
Sunday, February 09, 2014
As I said in my last post, we have lived so long in his depraved darkness we have become numbed to his democratic atrocities.
Or paralyzed like some small animal caught in the murderous stare of a cobra.
For what else can explain that we should find ourselves living in a country where the Chief Electoral Officer feels he can't talk about democracy?
Saturday, February 08, 2014
Ever since he came to power he has been stealthily gnawing away at the fabric of our country.
Waiting until we are asleep, or distracted, to gobble up another little bleeding chunk of what was once Canada.
But what Stephen Harper has done in just the last week, is now threatening to kill our democracy.
When I went past Toronto's City Hall today I was happy to see the beautiful rainbow flag flying, like it is in so many other Canadian cities from St John's to Vancouver.
As a gesture of solidarity with the brutally oppressed LGBT people of Russia.
So you can imagine how angry I felt when I learned that the Con hog Rob Ford had tried to take it down.
Friday, February 07, 2014
I'm sure you remember the last time Rob and Doug Ford got their own Ford Nation TV show.
And how it had to be cancelled after just ONE episode.
Because the Ford brothers stank out the joint.
And crappy low budget Fox News North ran out of tape...
Well brace yourself, they're BAAAAACK !!!!
With their even lower budget YouTube show...
Well the Opening Ceremonies of the Sochi Olympics are just hours away, and I'll probably watch them. If only to see the fascist dwarf Vladimir Putin claim them as his own.
So soon after his corrupt regime made it clear, once again, why the games never should have been held there.
